Forensic Dental Auditing for Senior Pets

Periodontal disease is the 'Silent Killer' of senior pets in Australia. Bacteria from the mouth can travel through the bloodstream, causing micro-abscesses in the heart, liver, and kidneys. From a forensic health perspective, a pet’s dental score is a key indicator of their overall biological age. When a pet enters a new home, dental pain is often misdiagnosed as 'fussy eating'.

A comprehensive Care Directive should include the pet's most recent dental X-rays or vet scores. This allows the guardian to monitor for changes in chewing behavior or halitosis. We also emphasize the inclusion of 'Mechanical Cleaning Protocols'—the specific types of enzymatic chews or brushes the pet is accustomed to. For many senior dogs, dental surgery is a high-risk event due to anesthesia sensitivities.

By providing a history of dental treatments, you prevent unnecessary exploratory surgeries and ensure the new guardian can manage existing conditions effectively. It is a forensic act of protection that addresses one of the most common sources of chronic pain in the aging animal population.
