The 24-Hour Crisis Response Map
In an emergency, every second counts. A forensic care plan includes a 'Crisis Map' for the new guardian. This map should identify the nearest 24/7 specialist emergency hospital, not just a standard GP vet. This is vital because many senior pet emergencies—such as GDV (bloat) or heart failure—occur after hours.
The directive should also state your 'Treatment Threshold'. For example, if the pet requires surgery, is there a specific budget or a 'Quality of Life' boundary the guardian should follow? Providing this forensic clarity removes the emotional and financial burden from the guardian during a crisis.
By pre-authorizing emergency care up to a certain dollar amount from the legacy fund, you ensure the pet receives life-saving treatment immediately, without the guardian having to wait for estate funds to be cleared by an executor of the estate.
